I'm programmatically inserting some text into merged cells in a row. I have Wrap Text set and want the row height to expand as necessary to accommodate multiple lines of text. I was programmatically applying AutoFit once the cells had been filled but that didn't work. I subsequently found a Knowledge Base article saying the AutoFit doesn't work for merged cells! I can try to compute the row height required to accommodate the number of lines of wrapping text. But I don't really want to climb into calculating character widths etc. Any ideas gratefully appreciated.
Excel - Prevent cell text from overflowing into next (empty) cell. I know I can avoid this by enabling 'word wrap' and adjusting row height. But that is not what I want. Clip text in excel mac 15.xx.x. How can I get a cell in Excel to automatically adjust its height to fit the wrapped text contents?
Question credit goes to David (I had the exact same question, just reposting here for posterity). I found a VB macro that will simulate the autofit of any merged cells on the active sheet.
I'm really hoping that this isn't a 'bug' in Excel 2000 or lack of functionality but. Setting wrap text on individual cells allows text to wrap and automatically increase row height. However, it seems as soon as you merge 2 or more cells together the wrap text will no longer automatically increase the row height. It seems to make little relevence what state the wrap text was set to on the cells before they're merged, or whether it's set to wrap text after they're merged, it just doesn't seem to work.
Please please please will someone tell me there's a little check box somewhere that I can put a tick in and it'll work. Any help much appreciated. Sorry, my bad, I have subsequently done a search and found a multitude of threads, however the one I'm interested in starts with the following code: Private Sub WorksheetSelectionChange(ByVal Target As Excel.Range) Whilst this in fact does allow you to wrap text, for me - it only increases the row height once you re-select the cell. Simply pressing 'RETURN' (with text in box) does not increase the row height - is this right, is there a way that pressing 'RETURN' can increase the row height without the individual having to go back into the cell? I don't do VB at all so please feel free to start from the basic's basics. In response to a few other posts on the same issue where people have said it's not a problem for them, how can this be??? Any help appreciate.
