If you experience an issue where the game continuously crashes to desktop when you try and launch it please do the following: - Close Steam - Navigate to My Documents Paradox Interactive Hearts of Iron 4 - Delete the 'map' and 'sharedcache' folder - Disable any outdated mods - Restart Steam and launch the game If this doesn't work please follow the same procedure as above but delete the entire Hearts of Iron 4 folder and try again. IMPORTANT NOTE! Backup your savegame folder if you wish to keep your save games!
I recently reinstalled Hearts of Iron, and followed-up with the 1.06c patch and CORE v.9 using Alan's ModInstaller. When I start the game, I get this: And when I click on the first button, I get this: When I click on the buttons, I get a strange scenario in which you play one of the major countries, but without anyone else - the rest of the map is unclaimed territory.
Is this normal, or did I botch my installation somehow? The standard game seems to play okay, though I did have one pop-up that said 'Unknown String Wanted,' followed by a crash a couple days later. On a side note, I love the fact that CORE has a 1939 scenario now. Playing through the three additional years of the Road to War scenario got tedious after awhile. That first button is for the tutorial in the stock HOI, ignore it. Go SP, MP for CORE is a separate mod.
Downloading and Installing mods files for BlackICE can be done manually from. GNU/Linux: ~/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/mod/; Mac:.
Remember, after you install CORE, there is a mod-CORE folder in your Data Files folder. In the scenario folder, you will see scenario files for CORE '36 and CORE '39. Copy these into the stock HOI scenario folder. Once this is done, you'll be able to see and select them in the SP menu. After you save and quit the CORE game. You must go back into the mod-CORE folder, locate the save, and copy it into the stock HOI scenario/saves folder.
Also, be sure you hold the apple key as you start of HOI. This gives you the scenario window, the same place you change the game's resolution. In the scenario window type the name of the mod folder, which should be mod-CORE. Doesn't matter the name, as long as it's correct.
Do know, loading takes a little longer than the stock HOI game. Hi Are these errors in the installer, or problems with the way the CORE file set is configured for Windows? These problems are with the CORE file set. I don't really understand it completely, because HOI, EU2, and Victoria behave differently with mods.
But, I believe some it has to do with EU2 and HOI being ported for classic and OSX, and Victoria being ported for OSX only. For example, (1) Someone tweaked the AGCEEP file set which now allows the moddir function to work with AGCEEP. Meaning, we can simply start-up EU2 and type in AGCEEP in the scenario window to use the AGCEEP mod. Before, it needed to be installed and run similar to CORE. This is great because only one executable is required, unlike HOI (reason for all the copy & pasting of save files I assume).
(2) CORE is as stated in my last post. (3) Victoria doesn't have a moddir function, at least where we can type in the scenario folder.
So, we install VIP and it behaves as as new game, similar to how we need several installs of Civ3 to run different modded games (GOTM, DyP, TAM, vanilla, etc.). Ah hell, I confuse myself.
